Works 1997 | Mani di fata. Libreria Bibli, Rome (solo)
The hands pictured above belong to my daughter. They are on the invitation to the exhibition to thank her for indicating the direction in which I have taken my work in the past four years. When she was a year old I took a picture of her plastic multi-colored ball, to finish a roll of film. That photograph was the beginning of a series of collages and still-life photographs. I wanted to make homage pieces to my parents explaining how I felt about being a parent, and then I made a piece to introduce them to my daughter and her to them. Since those first pieces I have continued to use toys, my daughter’s drawings, my father’s photographs, my own photographs; taken during the last twenty years spent far from my native country, and other found objects: tiles, hangers, cookie cutters. By playing with the dynamics of their different groupings I express my feelings concerning childhood, parenting and the passage of time.
